What is the Cazinoul Băilor?

The Cazinoul Băilor is a former spa casino whose history is closely tied to Vatra Dornei’s development as a spa town. The museum’s official website records its inauguration on 10 July 1899.
Viennese architect Peter von Brang designed the building in an eclectic style with some German Neo-Renaissance influence, modeled on the casino in Baden. The regional tourism organization dates its construction to between 1896 and 1898 and calls it „Palatul Dornelor.”
Emperor Franz Joseph, Lucian Blaga and Nicolae Iorga passed through the building. Its restoration and conversion into a museum center received a financing contract in December 2017 through Romania’s Regional Operational Programme 2014–2020.
